The Web 2.0 Way

Published October 29, 2007 by Rick Biche

I caught this New York Times article about Nick Haley, an 18 year old student in England whose YouTube video has become a produced and featured commercial for Apple. All the ingredients are there for a pro-sumer world story. A few of the lines that resonate most strongly with me as an educator are:

…Mr. Clow said. “People’s relationship with a brand is becoming a dialog, not a monolog.”

What if brand were your content, class or school?

and

“…That’s the whole point of advertising; it needs to get to the user,” Mr. Haley said. “If you get the user to make the ads, who better?”

Would they advertise it?

I cannot help but think of: “….the medium is the message…”
and its relevance to blogging and the article about Mr. Haley….
Mr. MacLuhan was a visionary…..and perhaps forsaw that the world would be ‘flat’.
